1993 yapımı The Remains of the Day’de James Stevens, İkinci Dünya Savaşı öncesinin çalkantılı İngiltere’sinde Darlington Malikânesi’nin baş uşağı olarak görev yapar. Hayatını Lord Darlington’a hizmet etmeye adayan Stevens, katı kuralları ve çalışanlara uyguladığı disiplinle tanınır. Aşçıbaşı Miss Kenton’ın malikâneye gelişi, bu düzeni sarsar. Stevens ona karşı sıcak duygular beslese de gururu, hislerini dile getirmesine engel olur.
